To Windows Mobile and Back again...

Posted 12-27-2008 at 03:12 PM by mjwood0

In my last blog post, I discussed my frustrations with RIM and their support (or lack thereof) for two way IMAP. With the sheer quantity of non-corporate users, I really feel that RIM is dropping the ball here. Is it too much to ask that I can read my e-mail on my computer and have it show up as read on my BlackBerry?

Anyway, last week I purchased an ATT Fuze (the HTC Touch Pro) device and downloaded a demonstration license of FlexMail. This is the top of the line Windows Mobile...

Frustrated with RIM

My saga begins two years ago when I wanted a smartphone to handle my email. I wanted something that handled IMAP and supported synchronization. My search led me to the BlackBerry which is where I've happily been ever since. I've gone through multiple devices and am currently enjoying my Curve 8310 through ATT.

But about a year ago, I started getting frustrated. While the mail on the BB is instantanious, rock solid and fully functional, I was wondering why it wasn't possible for...

Predictions for 2009: at&t and Research in Motion

Posted 12-09-2008 at 09:13 AM by mjwood0

I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. I have no affiliation with at&t and the following are simply my thoughts.

At current, at&t has four BlackBerries that they are actively selling (not as refurbs, but as new units). The Pearl (8110 or 8120), the Curve (8310), the 8820 and the Bold (9000). There is also the Javelin (8900) on the horizon. Here are my 2009 predictions for each model:

At current, I don't see this device going anywhere soon. I...

The power of AutoText

Posted 11-26-2008 at 10:46 PM by mjwood0

While I'm sure some take full advantage of the AutoText entries on their BlackBerry devices, I really never have. While browsing the Stacks tonight, I came across this thread.

It might not be the most profound concept, but this affords the user a great deal of power! And some of the suggestions in that list are really good!

If you're unfamiliar with AutoText, you can find it at:
Options --> AutoText

Essentially, there are two types of AutoText...

The Facebook Problem

Posted 11-18-2008 at 02:50 PM by mjwood0

So I have to say -- normally I'm not big into social networking. In fact, I've successfully lasted my whole life without ever visiting or joining MySpace. Yep. I'm one of those people.

But a whole bunch of my friends (many of whom are overseas) were conversing via Facebook and decided that I needed my own page. I didn't agree and so held out about three months until I finally pulled the trigger. One of the deciding factors was the idea that I could do most of the Facebook "stuff"...

Hands on Bold Impressions

Posted 11-11-2008 at 07:19 AM by mjwood0

Yesterday, I was able to go to the local ATT store and actually play with a device for a good 20 minutes. Archer6 asked me a few questions regarding my impressions and I posted them in this thread. It then occurred to me that I should probably post them here as well.

The sample I was able to play with was a demo sample and had therefore, been handled a lot over the last few days. Not that this makes a huge difference as I would expect a BB to be handled a lot by it's owner, but I'm...

The Cool Factor... and does it matter?

Posted 11-09-2008 at 08:14 PM by mjwood0

With all the hype surrounding the recent release of the Bold and the upcoming releases of the Javelin and Storm, I find myself at a crossroads. I'm currently happily typing along on my ATT Curve 8310 using it for not only receiving close to 200 emails per day, sending around 25 per day, browsing online, finding directions with Google Maps and keeping track of my life in the calender, but also listening to music at the gym. Needless to say, I'm never far from my Blackberry. At present, it simply...

Introduction
Having signed up for a Premium Membership a week or so ago, I figured it was time to test out some of the new features like this blog!

I'm not a great writer, but I figure that I can document my successes and failures regarding my Blackberry here. At present, I'm an at&t customer using BIS.

Today is also a big day. I received my new Titanium Blackberry Curve 8310 in the mail. So far, activation / migration has...
