Sportin' a Bold
So Thursday, I ventured out to the AT&T store. Ended up dropping Verizon and my Pearl (the signal was spotty at my house - I think the tower is overloaded for the area) and signing up with AT&T and getting a Bold.
First thing that struck me was the screen looks great. It's exponentially better than my Pearl (as expected). Now I just have to scour the web for themes and backgrounds to load up on this and go through the hassle of trying to get all my app licenses switched over.
I haven't used the WiFi very much yet, so I can't comment on if it's any faster than 3G. (I've heard reports that it's not.) The GPS works great (which is a wonderful change from Verizon's crippled GPS setup), and Google Maps works much more accurately. Time to try some of the other third party GPS/navigation apps that those of you not on Verizon get to play with. I haven't had it long enough to check on battery life, but I expect it to be decent though probably not as good as the Pearl (larger screen, faster innards). Upon reading many comments on various OS levels, I've loaded up the .210 "beta" and am currently seeing if it pans out.
The signal strength was my biggest worry. My worries have proved to be unfounded. I get great signal at home (solid 4-5 bars with only a very occasional dip to 3 bars versus anywhere from 0 to 4 bars on Verizon's network - really flaky) and great signal at work (get 4-5 bars while in the server room versus 0-1 with Verizon and/or Sprint). So I'm at least very happy with my initial results. I hope it keeps up.
Edit: I also want to give a big "thank you" to JerryD and his mini version tracker (as well as the OTA Downloader suggestion on that page - that is awesome).
